Nashville Data Nerds: Predicting side effects due to interaction between a Pair of Drugs  | 5:30pm-6:30pm CDT

Nashville Data Nerds is a Data meetup that meets monthly to discuss ideas or projects related to data. During COVID, we have switched to virtual meetings. The format of the meetings are:

– 15 minutes networking via Zoom breakout rooms
– 30 minutes for the conversation leader to present a topic with a discussion
– 15 minutes for open discussion

Topic:

Pharma or biotech companies document the side effect profile of medications from the clinical trial data. This usually takes a long time (about 10-15 years) and tons of resources. She was interested to see if machine learning models could be used to predict potential side effects caused due to interaction between two drugs. Such predictions could potentially reduce the cost and time for pharmaceutical companies.
